About Lisa

IMG_3604Lisa is a tertiary trained professional dancer with many years teaching and performance experience in New Zealand, London and Canada.

Lisa started dancing at a young age and went on to professional fulltime tertiary training gaining a Diploma in Commercial Dance at The Wellington Performing Arts Centre (now Te Auaha Whitireia Performing Arts).

Lisa spent nearly 5 years in London UK pursuing further training in dance and Musical Theatre and in this time performed with various theatre companies in and around London’s West end.  Lisa performed in music videos and as a dancer for the UKTV channel.  Lisa also worked as a freelance dance teacher in London primary schools.

Lisa also spent a year in Vancouver Canada working as a freelance dance teacher.

Lisa has performed in many shows, corporate events, and sporting events in Wellington. Her most recent performance being a member of the cast of “Evita” at The Wellington Opera House.  Lisa has been a freelance dance and performing arts teacher for over 10 years in Wellington and has helped direct many children’s dance and musical theatre shows.

As much as Lisa loved dancing and teaching around the world the pull to come home to her favourite city was too strong and she is very excited to bring Over the Rainbow to the Wellington community. Lisa now has her own “Little Rainbow” Oliver who is 3 and will be old enough to start the preschool classes alongside Mummy(all going well)!

Lisa had the great opportunity to train as a Kids Yoga teacher with the world wide brand “Rainbow Kids Yoga” (no relation to Over the Rainbow just a similar name). Rainbow Yoga train in New York, London, Canada, Australia all around the world and only come to New Zealand once a year and it is usually Auckland! Lisa was one of the first graduates from the Wellington training.

After practising Yoga for many years to assist with her dance technique and for a calmer state of mind Lisa was intrigued to see how Kids Yoga worked and how it would interest children and benefit them.  Lisa was worried it may be a bit ‘boring’ for kids but at the same time it sounded great and a natural flow on from teaching dance.  It is anything but boring!   Her first thought was how amazing and fun it is and how much kids and young people will love it! Her second thought was how much this will benefit children’s lives. Dance has always been Lisa’s greatest passion but to discover something that she could be equally as passionate about is a wonderful gift.

Lisa’s core value as a teacher is quite simply ‘kindness’.  Lisa believes that in a kind, fun and safe environment children can truly be themselves and in turn they learn great dance moves and blossom into fantastic and happy dancers and strong, confident and calm Yoga kids.
